Welsh Ambulance Conference

Last week our volunteers Amy, Natalie, and Ffion attended the Welsh Ambulance Conference at Newbridge Memo. We learned that it’s not always necessary to dial 999 when you’re ill. You can call 111 for medical advice instead. They even have a new service to help with mental health issues — just dial 111 and select option 2.

We also got an inside look at the 7 checks paramedics do, tried out some equipment, and toured an ambulance, and Ffion gave a brilliant performance acting out a 999 call. It was lovely catching up with our friends from Torfaen People First, Cwm Taff, and Blaenau Gwent. A delicious buffet lunch topped off the day, and we left with goodie bags. What a fantastic day!

Halloween Music Party

What a spooktacular day at our Reconnect through Music Halloween Party today! We had a full house, and everyone brought their A-game with amazing costumes, singing some classic tunes along with some Halloween favourites! The atmosphere was electric, with lots of dancing and spooky fun.

We also enjoyed a fang-tastic buffet lunch and delicious Halloween cakes. Big thanks to Zoe and Gemma for helping out and making it a party to remember! No group next week as the lovely Zak and Lexy will be working on their youth project for half-term. A big shout-out to Libanus Lifestyle Chapel for hosting us; we had so much fun and can’t wait for the next one!

Yoga With Lisa

We had a wonderful afternoon at our yoga session yesterday! We stretched, relaxed, and even used tennis balls to give our muscles a gentle massage! The benefits of yoga are endless — improved flexibility, stress relief, and a stronger mind-body connection! Big thank you to Lisa for guiding us through a fab session! We’re already excited to see you next week to try out some new poses. Can’t wait to stretch it out again!

Gardening Group

What a fantastic morning we had at TARAGGAN Educational Gardens & Nursery yesterday. The weather held off just long enough for us to enjoy some outdoor time and plant garlic in pots! There’s something so refreshing about getting your hands dirty and breathing in that fresh air. Did you know? Gardening isn’t just about growing food—it’s great for your mind and body too! It helps reduce stress, boosts your mood, and is an excellent way to stay active. Thanks Kyle and Sam – we will see you next week.

Reconnect Through Cookery

At Friday’s Reconnect Through Cookery session we had a fantastic time making our own pizzas using wraps as the base! Everyone got creative with their favourite toppings; we had pepperoni, cheese, pineapple, peppers, onion, mushrooms, ham, and chicken – a delicious variety!

We also prepared a healthy salad using fresh ingredients, to balance out our tasty pizzas. A big thank you to all the volunteers and everyone who worked so hard in the kitchen. Your efforts make these sessions extra special!

After our delicious pizza lunch, we enjoyed a fun quiz and played bingo – always a hit with the group! These sessions aren’t just about cooking – they help us socialise, make new friends, and learn new skills, all while reducing isolation. The laughter and connection we share are what make this group so amazing.

Next week, we’re looking forward to making sausage, mash, veg, and onion gravy – can’t wait!

Reconnect Through Music

What a fantastic morning at the RecRock session with Caerphilly People First! Volunteers and members came together bright and early for a fun-filled time of singing, dancing, and enjoying music. Matthew played a few tunes on his guitar, and we had a full house soaking in the good vibes!

Everyone enjoyed a light lunch together, making it a perfect start to the day. It’s always incredible to see how music can bring people closer and create a warm, supportive community.

Next week, we’re gearing up for a Halloween-themed session! Fancy dress is optional, but the fun is a must! Remember, there’s no session the following week as Lexy and Zak will be working with another group during half-term. See you all next week for more morning music magic and spooky fun!

Reflexology

A big thank you to Emma for yesterday’s wonderful Reflexology session! Eight more members had the chance to enjoy a relaxing hand or foot treatment, and the smiles were priceless!

Reflexology offers incredible benefits for adults with learning disabilities. It helps reduce stress, promotes relaxation, improves circulation, and supports overall well-being. Sessions like these create a calming environment where everyone feels more connected and cared for.

We’re so grateful for these opportunities to support our members’ health and happiness. See you all next time for more relaxation and self-care!

Strimmer Training

Well done to our amazing volunteers Gethin and Morgan for attending the Brushcutters and Trimmers training this week! A big thank you to Richard for delivering the training, and to James for providing the PPE. They had a fantastic time, and Gethin especially enjoyed using the strimmer! Huge thanks to Theresa and Dave for hosting us up at Ynys Hywel Farm.

Relationships Training

Last week our executive assistant Ffion Poole delivered training on relationships, friendships, and online safety to the members of “Our Voice, Our Choice” in Ceredigion.

The sessions were provided to two different group over 2 days, and it was great to see everyone sharing their thoughts, having meaningful conversations, and learning together. Both groups were so welcoming, and interacted really well throughout the sessions.

The sessions kicked off with the Skittles icebreaker, then we dived into discussions about friendships and relationships. The first part of the session was all about relationships, and the group talked about what makes a good girlfriend or boyfriend. Other topics covered during the training included: what makes a good or bad friend, how to handle arguments, and online safety tips.

Here is some of the feedback we received from the people who took part in the sessions:

Harriett: “It’s been good, I’ve learned to be careful and really enjoyed it.”

Sue: “I enjoyed it and it was nice hearing everyone’s experiences.”

Tom: “The presentation was great, I learned a lot about relationships.”

Melissa: “I loved it! A great place to learn about friendships and relationships—I could relate to so much.”

Ian: “It was interesting, the tutor made it fun, and I really enjoyed it.”
