TARAGGAN Gardens

This week at the TARAGGAN Educational Gardens & Nursery, we have been busy looking after the garden! We planted cabbages and got the beds ready for autumn. Our volunteers worked hard to pull out the weeds and keep the garden healthy.

A big thank you to Kyle for helping the group and supporting us! The garden is a nice, calm place where everyone can enjoy nature, learn new things, and make friends. Thank you to everyone who helped! We are growing something special together!

If you want to join us, let us know. We are always looking for more people to help in the garden!

Reconnect Through Cookery

On Friday our Reconnect through Cookery group made a delicious pasta bake. We had a plain sausage bake, a plain tuna bake, and some with mushrooms, onions, peas, sweetcorn, and peppers. Our members also prepared a fresh and healthy salad using tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, and spring onions.

We had a full house again and served up 60 portions! We even made our own garlic butter and added parsley and chives to part-baked rolls, which were absolutely delicious! Lunch was enjoyed by everyone.

It’s amazing to see everyone joining in, having fun, learning new skills, and trying new foods. These sessions make a huge difference to our members, reducing isolation and loneliness. A big thank you to all our fantastic volunteers for helping in the kitchen, running the quiz and bingo, and setting up the hall.

We’re off next week, but we’ll see you all on Friday, October 4th when we’ll be making curry with chicken korma and balti, chosen by our member Connor.

Mental Health with Sad Dog

This week, Sad Dog, a mental health and wellbeing organisation, came to visit Caerphilly People First to talk about mental health and suicide first-aid. We spoke about different types of mental health, and what is anxiety and what is stress. We also spoke about how people have different coping strategies and how stress isn’t a mental health condition. The feedback we had after the session was that members felt a better understanding of suicide and mental health and feel much more confident to have a conversation with someone. We also spoke about how we can approach friends or family and how to keep an eye on them. Thank you sad dog for taking your time to come and have a chat with us.

Reconnect Through Music

What a fantastic day we had at our Reconnect Through Music session yesterday! We had so much fun singing and dancing, and Christy even joined Karen for a rendition of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends”. A huge shoutout to Zac and Lexy, and all our incredible members who truly blew the roof off the place! Thank you all for making it such a memorable event. See you all next week for more music and fun!

Gardening at TARAGGAN

What a fantastic morning we had at TARAGGAN Educational Gardens yesterday! Our amazing Caerphilly People First volunteers had a great time weeding, socialising, and enjoying the sunshine. A big thank you to Sam for stepping in while Kyle is away doing his strimmer training – we hope it’s going well! Looking forward to next week already – see you then!

Reconnect Through Music

What a Session! Caerphilly People First Singing Group Hit All the Right Notes! Last week’s singing session at Libanus Lifestyle Chapel was an absolute blast with Zac and Lexy from RecRock! Voices were soaring, smiles were shining, and we had the best time making music together! After singing our hearts out, members enjoyed a light lunch and a dance — because who can resist a good boogie?

A huge thank you to everyone who joined in and brought their amazing energy — what a fantastic day! We can’t wait to see you all at the next session. Keep those voices and dance moves ready.

Reconnect Through Cookery

On Friday our amazing group came together to cook a delicious cottage pie using 5% fat lean mince. Our members did a fantastic job preparing fresh ingredients, including onions, carrots, broccoli, and mushrooms. While the food was cooking, everyone had a great time participating in the quiz and bingo.

Lunch was a hit, with 64 individuals attending and enjoying every bite! Next week, we’ll be making pasta bake with fresh salad and garlic bread — can’t wait! Our sessions are now full to capacity, but don’t worry, we have a reserve list available. A big thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard in the kitchen, to Sarah for hosting the quiz, and to Nat for running the bingo. Your efforts make these sessions special!
