Fun and Games!

Our members have been having loads of fun playing darts, snooker, and ping pong, thanks to a very generous donation! There have been plenty of smiles, laughter, and a few friendly competitions – our members love taking part, especially when they’re winning! 😄💪🏆

Disabled People’s Rights 10-Year Plan!

Last week we met with Tracey Drew from All Wales People First and our friends from Swansea Self Advocacy Groups 💬🧑‍🤝‍🧑
We talked about the big 10-year plan to make life fairer for disabled people in Wales 💪🌍
✅ We shared our thoughts on what’s good
➕ We said what could be better
💡 We gave ideas to help improve the plan
The plan includes: 🏠 Independent living
🧑‍🏫 More training & jobs
🏥 Better healthcare
🚌 Easier transport
📄 Info in Easy Read
🎤 And making sure our voices are heard!
We were proud to speak up and be included! 🙌🧡

Summer Vibes Party

We hope you all had a WONDERFUL day at our Summer Fiesta! 🎉🌞
The sun was shining ☀️, the disco was buzzing 🎶🕺, and the games were packed with fun – from limbo, basketball 🏀, to hula hoops! 🔥 Everyone got involved, and even Peter the caretaker dressed up for the occasion! 🎭👏
The decorations looked amazing 🌺🌈, the food and ice cream were delicious 🍔🌭🍦, and the dancing was fantastic 💃🕺 – you all brought the vibes!
💛 Massive THANK YOU to our incredible volunteers who helped make today such a special one. You’re the best!

Reconnect Through Music VIBES!

What an amazing session today – our members truly reached for the stars! ⭐✨
🎤 Ffion and Nat kicked things off with a fab duet of S Club 7’s “Reach for the Stars” 💫
🎶 Ava brought the energy with “Freedom” by Wham! 🕺
🎤 Susan wowed us with “My Girl” by The Temptations 💕
🎶 Elizabeth sang a sweet version of “Sweet Caroline” (so good! so good! 🎵)
🌏 Shaun got everyone moving with “Down Under” by Men at Work!
🎵 With 28 incredible performances, our session was full of joy, laughter, clapping, dancing, and singalongs! 🥳🎉🪩
🥪🍰 We also enjoyed a lovely buffet – big thanks to Cheryl and Helen for keeping us fed and happy, and to Sian for doing the register with a smile! 😊🧡
🌞 We can’t wait to see you all at our Summer Fiesta this Friday – it’s going to be HOT HOT HOT! 🌴🌺🌭🍍🍉🎉

Reconnect Through Cookery Update!

Friday was all about fresh flavours and fun! Our amazing members got stuck in preparing delicious salads with:
🥬 lettuce, 🍅 tomatoes, 🧅 red onion, 🫑 peppers, 🥒 cucumber, 🧄 garlic, and a sprinkle of herbs!
We had three mouthwatering options:
🍝 One with creamy tomato and bacon sauce, topped with melty ham and cheese 🧀
🐟 A tuna, mayo and sweetcorn mix – a classic favourite!
🥗 And loads of freshly chopped salad for everyone to enjoy 💚

🎟️ Amy for sorting the raffle
👩‍🍳 And everyone who helped out in the kitchen – you’re all stars!

AGM News from Caerphilly People First!

Today we had our AGM – that means our Annual General Meeting. It’s a special meeting where we talk about what we’ve done over the year and make important group decisions 😊👏
We also voted for a new Chair and Vice Chair! 🎉🪑
Sadly, Hannah Thomas couldn’t be with us – we missed you Hannah 💜

Reconnect Through Music 🎤🎸

What a brilliant session we had last week with an amazing crowd of 30 music lovers! 💃🕺
We had 28 fantastic songs performed by our talented members 🎵🎤 —
🌟 Jade wowed us with Holiday by Madonna
🌟 Nat sang Love Me Do by The Beatles and Daniel by Elton John
🌟 Jamie, our newest member, impressed everyone with 7 Years by Lukas Graham
🌟 Libby sang Ordinary by Alex Warren so beautifully
🌟 Ffion did a fab job running the session and even blasted out a few bangers herself! 🎶

Travel Confidence Trip with Clare from Transport for Wales

We recently jumped aboard for a fantastic Travel Confidence trip with the lovely Clare from Transport for Wales! 🙌
We set off from Pengam Station and travelled to Cardiff Queen Street, before heading down to the beautiful Barry Island 🏖️☀️
On the way back, we enjoyed a direct journey from Barry Island to Pengam—and we were lucky enough to ride on one of the brand new trains! 🚄 They’re so comfortable, spacious, and much quieter than the old ones 🙉👏
We had coffee and cold drinks at Marco’s ☕🥤, took a lovely stroll along the front 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️, and of course, no trip to Barry Island is complete without chips and ice cream 🍟🍦
Everyone had a fab day, full of fun, sunshine, and confidence-building travel skills 🌟💙
Thanks again to Clare and Transport for Wales for supporting us to travel safely and independently ❤️🚉

Reconnect Through Cookery Fun!

At our first July session of Reconnect Through Cookery, our amazing members got hands-on prepping onions 🧅, mushrooms 🍄, and peppers 🌶️ to add to our delicious Mayflower chicken curry! Some preferred it plain – all served with plain or vegetable rice 🍚 and crunchy prawn crackers 🦐. YUM!
We had a sweet treat too – a slice of chocolate cake 🍰 to celebrate Reese’s birthday! 🎂🥳
After lunch, we had a brilliant time playing bingo 🎱 and testing our brains with a fun quiz 🧠 — big shoutout to: 💛 Peter the caretaker for all his support

💛 Nat for hosting the quiz like a pro!
These sessions aren’t just about food – they’re about friendship, laughter, learning new skills, reducing isolation, and having a great time together. 💬👫🧠
