This week, Sad Dog, a mental health and wellbeing organisation, came to visit Caerphilly People First to talk about mental health and suicide first-aid. We spoke about different types of mental health, and what is anxiety and what is stress. We also spoke about how people have different coping strategies and how stress isn’t a mental health condition. The feedback we had after the session was that members felt a better understanding of suicide and mental health and feel much more confident to have a conversation with someone. We also spoke about how we can approach friends or family and how to keep an eye on them. Thank you sad dog for taking your time to come and have a chat with us.

Mental Health Awareness Week
Mental Health Awareness Week took place from Monday 9th May to Sunday 15th May, and this year’s theme was loneliness. During the pandemic lots of people experienced loneliness, and sadly 1 in 4 adults will be affected by mental health problems during their lives. During Mental Health Awareness week, the CPF Reconnect Focus Group focused on their mental health and wellbeing by connecting with nature and the outdoors. We spent some time digging, planting and painting; activities which are really good for physical and emotional wellbeing. The group also took part in a wellbeing game and touched on what makes us sad, happy and angry. We finished off our session with a lovely walk in the sunshine.
