Yesterday our members enjoyed another fantastic session at the gardens πΌ The sunshine was out and so were the smiles! βοΈπ Gethin and Morgan got stuck inβworking hard, getting their hands in the soil, digging and turning over the plot πͺ΄π§€ It was a great way to boost wellbeing and connect with nature πΈπ
Gardening is not just about growing plantsβitβs about growing confidence, friendships, and happiness π»π€ It was also lovely catching up, having a laugh, and seeing everyone enjoy their time outdoors π A big thank you to everyone involved for making it such a positive and uplifting session ππ Weβre already looking forward to the next visit! πΏβ¨
What a brilliant session today! π With over 20 magical performances, the room was full of smiles, laughter, and people enjoying each otherβs company π€π¬. It was fantastic to see everyone socialising and connecting through music π€β€οΈ.
We were treated to many wonderful performances throughout the day. Sean gave us the full 8-minute version of American Pie πΈ, while Ellysia and Chris delighted everyone with two beautiful duet performances πΆπ«. Matilda brought great energy with βSummer Nightsβ from Grease ππ, Claire delivered a powerful rendition of βPurple Rainβ πβ, and Anthony performed βWonderful Tonightβ πΌβ¨.
A huge thank you goes to Christy, Cheryl, Helen, and Zoe for preparing our delicious hot dog lunch π and doing all the paperwork β your hard work helped the day run so smoothly, and is much appreciated ππ.
Days like today show the power of music in bringing people together, and the feedback we received really captured the spirit of the session. Mark shared that he enjoys making new friends π, Anthony described it as an amazing day π, and Matilda said itβs a happy atmosphere where everyone is made to feel welcome π.
We had another fantastic Reconnect Through Music session this morning! The room was full of energy, laughter, and brilliant performances as we sang an amazing 28 songs together. π΅π Our members brought us a wonderful mix of classics and hidden gems, covering music from the 1950s right through to the 2020s β what a journey through the decades, and what a joy to see everyone dancing, smiling, and socialising πΊπ»πΆ It was also lovely to welcome two new members, Cheryl and Claire, to their very first session with us. We hope you both enjoyed it and felt the warm Reconnect Through Music spirit! We were treated to so many brilliant performances, including:

This morning Ffion and Amy visited The Lewis School. Year 7 students are currently taking part in the First Give programme as part of their English lessons, and theyβve chosen to support Caerphilly People First. Through the First Give programme, the students will be carrying out social actions to support us and our work in the community πͺπ¬
We delivered a presentation about what we do at Caerphilly People First, what a First Give grant is, and how we would use Β£1,000 to make a real difference π±π³πΆ A First Give grant is funding that students can win by planning and delivering social action projects that support a local charity or community group, helping them create positive change. The students asked lots of fantastic questions and showed a genuine interest in our work β it was brilliant to see such enthusiasm and compassion π

We were recently honoured to attend the Annual Caerphilly Parent Network Volunteer Awards Event, and what an inspiring occasion it was ππ It was truly uplifting to hear about the incredible range of voluntary work being carried out by the Caerphilly Parent Network across the borough. The event celebrated the dedication, kindness, and commitment of individuals who selflessly give up their time to support others in their communities ππ€
Several awards were presented throughout the event, including: π Inspirational Volunteer π Personal Journey Award π Most Enthusiastic Award π Humble Hero Award
The final award of the day was the Sian Northey Award, which holds a very special meaning π This award is named in honour of Sian Northey, a wonderful and much-loved volunteer who contributed so much to the Parent Network before she sadly passed away a few years ago. Each year, the award is presented by Sianβs son, Gethin Chamberlain, a valued member of Caerphilly People First, making the moment especially moving and meaningful β€οΈ
We would like to say a huge thank you to the Caerphilly Parent Network for inviting us to be part of such a positive and heartfelt event π And of course, thank you as well for the lovely buffet β it was very much appreciated! π₯ͺπ° Overall, the event was a wonderful celebration of community spirit, generosity, and the power of volunteering π«
Fleur-de-Lys Community Centre was packed yesterday for our fortnightly Reconnect Through Music session, creating a fantastic atmosphere full of smiles, laughter, and socialising ππ¬ Music once again brought everyone together, and our talented members sang an impressive total of 22 songs during the session π€πΆ
Theresa kicked things off with a heartfelt performance of βNever Forgetβ by Take That, and Natalie soon had everyone moving and singing along with βOne Loveβ by Bob Marley ππΆ Ellysia followed with an energetic version of βDonβt Stop Me Nowβ by Queen, while Kelvin treated us to two songs by Cliff Richard πΈβ¨ Wayne kept the energy high with βWhoβs That Girlβ by Madonna, and Paula and Natalie teamed up for two fantastic duets, performing songs by ABBA and The Righteous Brothers ππΌ There were many other great performances, making the session varied and enjoyable for everyone involved π
We would like to say a big thank you to Cheryl and Helen for preparing a lovely lunch π₯ͺπ, and to Pete the caretaker for getting the centre ready for us and making sure everything ran smoothly ππ
The feedback from members was incredibly positive and really shows how much these sessions mean to people. Theresa said she enjoyed making new friends and feels the sessions cannot be improved πβ€οΈ Anthony told us that our music sessions are the best in the world! ππ Emily shared that she really enjoyed the loud music ππ΅ It was another wonderful session filled with music, friendship, and joy ππ€

It was really nice to see our members and volunteers on Friday, at our first Reconnect through Cookery session since the Christmas break. The session had a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with everyone happy to be back together. Alongside the cooking, members also took part in group activities that encouraged social interaction and fun. A quiz and a game of bingo helped create lots of laughter and conversation, adding to the positive atmosphere of the session. Members loved reconnecting after the Christmas break, working together as a group, learning and practicing cookery skills, and taking part in fun, inclusive social activities.
A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped in the kitchen and supported members throughout the day, and a massive thank you to Cheryl, Zoe, and Helen for running the session and making sure everything went smoothly. We would also like to say a huge thank you to Natalie for running the quiz, and to Tasha for calling out bingo – your continued support and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated.
Our next Reconnect Through Cookery session will take place on Friday 30th January, when we will be cooking cottage pie. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another enjoyable session, and we’ll see you then!
