We had a fantastic day at the University of South Wales yesterday when our Caerphilly People First TRAC members helped train student nurses from Learning Disability Nursing and Midwifery. π Gethin and Hannah played new parents who had just come home from hospital. πΆπ π€° Ffion played a woman who had just found out she was 18 weeks pregnant. These scenarios helped the student nurses think about how they can support people with learning disabilities. π We talked about the importance of:
π£οΈ Good communication
π Easy Read information
β€οΈ Listening to the person
βΏ Making reasonable adjustments
β° Giving people time
π€ Working together
π€ Involving people in their own care
π It is really important that different types of nurses work together and understand each other’s roles. π€π©ββοΈπΆ
π A massive well done to our TRAC members: Gethin, Hannah and Ffion. Your contribution helped make the training real, practical and meaningful. ππ And a huge WELL DONE to all the student nurses! π©ββοΈππ You did a fantastic job! ππ
